Writers on Writing #1: John McNally

Welcome to new regular column, in which writers  -- you guessed it! – write about writing. Let’s begin with John McNally’s essay "The Secret Life of Subtext," which was included in Issue 28. And then look forward to more to come. And if you’re a writer – at any stage of the game – and would like to be part of the conversation with your own WoW column, send an email to editor-in-chief Jen Howard at jenhowar@nmu.edu. Write about a particular element of craft, about the writing process, about what scares you about the whole gig, or secret shortcuts you’ve figured out over time. Write about how your cats hate what you do for a living, or how you wish you could actually write for a living. Write about submitting your work or how you get started or how you know when you’re done. Write about why you write. Write about anything that might fit under the umbrella Writers on Writing. We’d love to include you.
