Meet the Team!

Editor-in-Chief: Jennifer A. Howard is a first-generation Yooper and as a child witnessed Passages North get-togethers with the magazine’s founding editors (including her dad) at Bay College in Escanaba. Now, she gets to attend all gatherings properly without eavesdropping from the stairs. Her collection of flash stories, How to End Up, was published by New Delta Review, and her second chapbook will be available from The Cupboard in the spring. She edits the magazine’s Short-Shorts category, stocks the office with coffee and cat magazines, and pushes the Oxford comma agenda hard.

Managing Editor: Krys MalcolmBelc is the author of the flash nonfiction chapbook In Transit (The Cupboard Pamphlet) and the creator of many impressive cookies and brownies.

Poetry Editor: Patricia Killelea is the author of the poetry collection Other Suns (Swan Scythe press, 2011). Her recent work appears in Atticus Review, Moving Poems, Quarterly West, The Common, Waxwing, Spiritus, As/Us, and many others. She holds a Ph.D. in Native American Studies and M.A. in Creative Writing from the University of California, Davis. She is also a musician and produces video poems. Nonfiction/Hybrids Editor: Gavin Frank is the author of the nonfiction books, The Mad Feast: An Ecstatic Tour Through America’s Food (a Paris Review Staff Pick, and one of Ploughshares’ Best Books of 2015), Preparing the Ghost: An Essay Concerning the Giant Squid and Its First Photographer (a New York Times Editors’ Choice, NPR Notable Book, and New Yorker Book to Watch Out For), Pot Farm, and Barolo; the poetry books, The Morrow Plots, Warranty in Zulu, and Sagittarius Agitprop, and 2 chapbooks. He persevered through this past winter via the occasional one-handed cartwheel in his mind.

Fiction Editor: Monica McFawn’s story collection, Bright Shards of Someplace Else, won a Flannery O’Connor Award and was named a Michigan Notable Book and an NPR “Great Read.” She is also the recipient of a Walter E. Dakin fellowship from Sewanee Writers' Conference. Her stories have appeared in journals such as Georgia Review, Missouri Review, Gettysburg Review and others, and her screenplays and plays have had readings in New York and Chicago. She is also author of “A Catalogue of Rare Movements,” a poetry/art chapbook.
